Project Officer (Pollinators)
A post jointly funded by The Heritage Council and An Bord Bía
Background
The All-Ireland Pollinator Plan 2015-2020 was published in September 2015. It has 24 targets and 81 actions. Sixty-eight partner organisations have agreed to support the Plan, many of whom have accepted responsibility for specific actions. The Plan provides an important framework to bring together pollinator initiatives across the island of Ireland, and is the start of a process by which we can collectively take positive steps to protect Irish pollinators and the service they provide into the future.
The Pollinator Plan is a shared plan of action and has generated unprecedented and unanticipated levels of support from both the public and private sector. Thanks to the generous support of The Heritage Council and Bord Bía, the National Biodiversity Data Centre is seeking to appoint a full-time Project Officer to assist in implementation of the Plan.
The post
The Project Officer will guide and oversee successful implementation of the All-Ireland Pollinator Plan. This is an exciting opportunity for a suitable candidate who:
- Can demonstrate a track record in project management,
- Has a track record in networking and building partnerships for project delivery,
- Is self-motivated, and
- Is committed to nature conservation.
The post holder will be working with the team at the National Biodiversity Data Centre, under the direction of the All-Ireland Pollinator Plan Steering Group, led by Dr Úna FitzPatrick (chair) and Prof Jane Stout (Trinity College Dublin, vice chair). They will provide support to a large network of organisations and individuals across the public and private sectors.
The post holder is expected to:
- Provide information and support services to the network of 68 organisation that have endorsed the Plan, to assist them in delivery of actions
- Provide support to An Bord Bía’s Origin Green initiative to assist delivery of biodiversity measures
- Support the Heritage Officer network and others in encouraging pollinator friendly actions by Local Authorities
- Assist with the dissemination of sectoral pollinator guidelines and other information material
- Provide oversight and track progress with implementation of the actions identified in the Plan
- Provide administrative support to the Pollinator Plan Steering Group
- Provide a public information service for phone, email and social media queries
- Develop and maintain the Pollinator Plan website and social media presence
- Identify funding sources and develop proposals for additional funding opportunities
- Contribute to general Data Centre duties as required
Duration
To replace a vacancy in the post, the appointment is for a 7-month period. There is the possibility of extension, subject to satisfactory progress and availability of funding.
Location
This is a full time post based in the National Biodiversity Data Centre, Waterford.
Travel
The post will involve travel across the island of Ireland.
Salary
Salary for the 7-month contract is based on an equivalent annual salary of €38,000 (gross).
Minimum requirements
- BSc or equivalent experience in a relevant field
- Full clean driving licence – travel will be necessary to promote the Plan & support partner organisations
- Excellent interpersonal and oral communication skills
- Proven track record in written communication (reports, articles, web, social media)
- Track record in project management
- Keen knowledge and interest in Ireland’s biodiversity
Desirable requirements
- Experience in building partnerships for project delivery
- Knowledge and experience of pollinators
- Experience in writing successful funding bids
